Why learn the Spanish Language?
- The Spanish language is the mother tongue of 350 million people in 21 countries.
- Spanish is the second most used language in international communication.
- The Latin American countries are showing strong economic growth, making them potentially major commercial partners. The existing free trade agreements between Latin American countries and Canada and U.S, aims to improve the economy of these countries by making them more efficient and competitive.
- Hispanic culture has had a global influence in art, literature and music. Don Quijote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes, is the second most translated book in the world after the Bible. The most expensive painting ever sold is a Pablo Picasso from Spain.
- Latinos are increasingly making their mark on the world. You have seen the film “The House of the Spirits” based on the novel by Isabel Allende from Chile, and featuring the actor Antonio Banderas. Names such as Penelope Cruz (actrees) and Pedro Almodovar (film director) are very well known. Grammies have recently been awarded to singers such as: Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, and Christina Aguilera, all of whom are bringing new Latin rhythms to our ears.
